Conflict can be a great source at times for some much needed change in an organization. It can also be the building block for new ideas or concepts to be formed. Conflicts can be a great time to stop the situation, and take a look at current trends or thoughts and take time to revise them, possibly creating something new and innovative.
So, it is said that a conflict can exist without a dispute but a dispute cannot exist without a conflict (Spangler and Burgess, 2003). Many authors have highlighted the inevitability of conflicts on the other hand it is said that disputes can be prevented or at least can be minimized through proper management.
The literature shows that, if we can identify we are in conflict and can then implement a conflict management plan, our opportunity for resolution of the conflict increases significantly. We identify we are in conflict by identifying our physiological responses when in conflict and by identifying thoughts and feelings we are having that trigger us to realize that we are experiencing a conflict.
