The town of Farmville and Mayor David Whitus invite local seventh-graders to participate in the Virginia Municipal League’s (VML) annual “If I Were Mayor” essay contest. The contest promotes civic engagement and allows students to describe what they would do as mayor to make the town a great place to live. The contest is open to all seventh-graders. Essays must be 200-500 words, typed.
Essay Contest Rules 2020. Length: Your essay should be at least 1,000 words but should not exceed 1,250 words (word count does not apply to the list of sources). The word count must be included on the document you submit. Content and Judging: Submissions will be judged on the quality of analysis, quality of research, and form, style and mechanics.
